Help Jerry Get Respite Memory Care

My name is Brenda and my in-laws, Donnie and Jerry Ryan have hit a rough patch. Donnie, my mother-in-law got up Thursday morning, had a dizzy spell, and before she knew it was on the bathroom floor with her leg twisted beneath her. She had fallen and shattered her femur just above her knee. She underwent a successful surgery Thursday night and will have a long road to recovery.

My father-in-law (Jerry) has advanced dementia and Donnie has been his primary caregiver. He should be supervised and put into care at this point so Donnie can heal her broken leg.

Unfortunately, bed bugs entered their home and have invaded most of their belongings. Due to the bed bug situation, my husband and I can’t stay in their home to keep up Jerry’s routine. Our home recently flooded and we are in the midst of moving and doing repairs. The best option right now is to have Jerry go to Memory Care. Memory Care is not covered by insurance and the only option is self-pay; none of us have the funds to cover the $200 per day cost. We hope you can help us out to get Jerry into a safe, secure, and healthy situation for his care.

We expect Jerry to need Memory Care for at least two weeks, perhaps up to a month. We expect to need $4,500 to cover the cost of a month of Memory Care.

Due to the bed bugs, there will be additional costs for the cleanout and treatment to ensure their home is clear. We will likely need to replace their upholstered furniture, bed, linens, bedding, clothes, and shoes. For these needs, we anticipate needing another $2,000 to $4,000.

Donnie and Jerry have rarely spent a night apart in 55 years and the situation will definitely exacerbate his dementia. We have been on the phone with many agencies and social workers to help us figure out how to get Jerry into a facility that can meet his needs much better than we could. We have several leads and hope to have him placed this week, but will need the money to make it happen.
