Help Jerry Get his Groove Back!

Jerry (pictured above) has been a friend of our family for almost 10 years. My Mom met him downtown years ago and was struck by his kindness, resilience and positive outlook on life. Every time I see him, he shares incredible thoughts and perspectives on life, being grateful, accepting and forgiving even in his circumstances; which have not been easy.

Jerry lost his housing situation downtown a year ago, and has been homeless ever since. We lost track of him for the year and I just found him again a few weeks ago. I walked up to him on the street corner, and we greeted each other with a huge hug.

I just found out that he’s found new housing as of the first of the year. It is a small, unfurnished apartment that will become available on January 3rd, and we have come up with the necessary deposit. He has nothing else to his name other than the clothes on his back and a small bag of necessities.

I am reaching out to my friends and family with a request for donations to help my friend Jerry and allow us to purchased the bare necessities (a bed, table, chairs, lamps, microwave). In consultation with his social worker, we’ve determined that $3000 will accomplish that goal, so that’s the amount I’ve set for this GoFundMe campaign.

Rather than send out holiday cards this year, we decided to put the money towards Jerry and his housing and share this story with friends and family. Please do not feel any pressure to help, but if you are so inclined, a donation of any size (seriously, even the smallest amount helps) will help this remarkable man get a roof over his head and a place he can call home.
