So many of you kind people have offered to help us. Ambulance transportation for my dad’s cancer treatment has become a huge financial burden. It is not covered by Medicare, does not count toward any out-of-pocket maximums, and costs between $600 and $1,200 per round trip. These expenses are adding up quickly. We also want to be mindful of preserving savings for my mom, who is disabled and unable to work due to MS. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness and support.
Please take a moment to read why ambulance transportation is a necessity for my dad:
On May 27 of this year, my dad was diagnosed with stage IV cancer that has spread to his bones, specifically to his spine, pelvis, and ribs. He has an estimated 30 to 40 tumors along his spine, which are impinging on his spinal cord and causing multiple spinal fractures and vertebral collapse. In a relatively short time, this has left him bedbound. Even the smallest movement such as transferring into a wheelchair causes him unbearable 10 out of 10 pain, and sitting upright only worsens it. His pain specialist explained that there are no medications that can adequately relieve the pain caused by his spinal instability.
My dad and his doctors are not ready to give up the fight. His oncologist has recommended several more rounds of treatment before reconsidering any decision about hospice care.
Because of his severely limited mobility and the location of his tumors, the only safe way for him to travel into the city for treatment is on a stretcher by ambulance. While this is medically necessary and commonly done, it is unfortunately very expensive.
With the deepest gratitude, we are humbly accepting any donations to help get my dad to treatment. This fight is his, but it is also ours. We will move mountains to ensure he receives every treatment he wants. We are not giving up until both he and his oncologist decide otherwise. It should come as no surprise that Jerry Galloway is tough as nails and not going down without the fight of his life.
We truly appreciate all donations and every consideration. Thank you for walking alongside us.
With gratitude,
Bridget
