I am writing this for Jerry because it is hard for him to ask for help.
Jerry is a kindhearted, soft-spoken victim of the circumstances that can occur when a series of unfortunate events enters our life. Jerry was a successful businessman with a business of his own.
During the downturn in the economy, he lost his business, he developed a rare and aggressive form of mantle cell lymphoma and was caring for both his mother and father who have both passed away. Due to the high cost of medical care and the long term of his cancer treatment, Jerry began to fall behind.
The chemotherapy took its toll and with the subsequent bone marrow transplant which resulted in the residual effect of GVHD on his body, he was being pulled down. All he has now is a bed to sleep in at his sister's house, and his friends. His friends are the one thing Jerry will never lose.
In a recent visit with his transplant doctor, the need of a hip replacement was discussed. Jerry's joints are failing due to a bone disease called AVN caused by the steroid he must take for the complications caused by GVHD. He has been trying to find alternative help and qualify for grants to help him. He has a social worker but is unable at this time to find assistance. Jerry has had assistance in the form of a grant from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society but it was not renewed as funding is no longer available for mantle cell patients.
Jerry is in the middle of a crisis and needs help to keep his health insurance and his medications. He has been through so much that he is also now struggling with PTSD with which many cancer survivors struggle.
He needs a little help from his friends to survive this next round of challenges that have come his way. I am asking that we all look deeply in our conscience and heart and come forward to help with this “gofundme” so that he may find his way to a better life.
I am also asking that if any of you out there know some other way to help Jerry that you step forward and offer him assistance.
