Learning that someone close to you has a serious illness is never easy especially unexpectedly. Once you get over the initial shock though, all you want to do is something to help relieve any amount of worry or stress from their mind. I am arranging a fundraising benefit for Jerry to help bring something positive in this difficult time.
Jerry was in the hospital for an unexpected episode of diverticulitis. Luckily, because of the great doctors at Chester County Hospital, they noticed something irregular with his white blood cell count and followed it while in the hospital and once going home with a bone biopsy. That horrific phone call was made on a Thursday morning to Jerry stating he was diagnosed with APL Leukemia and needed to be admitted at The University of Penn in Philadelphia for treatment right away. He has been in the Rhoads Building on 6th floor since January 27, 2017 and will be there for anywhere from 35 to 45 days at a minimum for treatment. Doctors say his prognosis is very good because it was caught before he had any symptoms, but the treatment is aggressive.
Jerry will be discharged home from the hospital and put on outpatient chemotherapy treatments 5 days a week for 3 months, then 3 times a week for 2 months, then once or twice a week for the remainder of the year. The cost for transportation, parking, etc. is insane!
Jerry will be out of work for a minimum of 1 year and I want to do anything I can to help relieve whatever financial burden I can for Jerry and my mom. Neither of them are one to ask for help so I am taking on this task to help raise funds to help with anything that comes along with kicking this nasty, mean disease’s butt!
