Jerry and his family are facing an incredibly difficult season. Jerry was recently diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer that began in the rectum and has spread to his liver and bones. While there is hope in the treatment plan ahead, the road forward will involve ongoing medical care, oral chemotherapy, appointments, scans, and the physical and emotional toll that comes with cancer treatment.

For the past 18 years, Jerry has served his community as a firefighter. He began his career with the U.S. Forest Service as a member of the Arroyo Grande Hotshots and Pozo Engine for his first twelve fire seasons and now serves with Cal Fire the last six years in his hometown of Lockwood in BEU. He also spends his winters working in SLU with their Fuels program doing hazard reduction and vegetation management.

Jerry has always been someone who shows up for others. But more than anything, Jerry is a deeply devoted husband and father. He loves his family fiercely and has always worked hard to provide for them, care for them, and be a steady source of strength in their lives. He is the kind of person who puts others before himself, and seeing him face something this difficult is heartbreaking for everyone who knows and loves him.

As Jerry and his family navigate the uncertainty ahead, they are carrying not only the emotional weight of this diagnosis, but also the financial strain of treatment, medical expenses, travel to appointments, and the day-to-day needs of family life during a time of so much uncertainty.
