Times have been rough. 2021 was supposed to be a better year.
My brother, Jerrod Downing, has been suffering several painful medical issues over the last few months. After an onslaught of tests, we received the official diagnosis last week that he has an aggressive liver cancer. In addition to the large mass on his liver, doctors determined that the cancer has already spread into his lymphatic system. Because of the aggressiveness of the cancer, the doctors have unfortunately delivered a poor prognosis, and have related a minimal chance of him surviving the year.
Jerrod is currently discussing treatment options. He will be starting radiation and chemotherapy soon. The only unknown to us at this time is where those treatments might be happening. Several hospitals are on the list. Considering the aggressiveness of the cancer and the poor prognosis, the family is seeking the best cancer treatment team that can be found.
Jerrod is a strong young man with a fighting will, and we are all very hopeful that he will kick this thing in the ass. He has a beautiful wife, Kelsey, and two gorgeous little girls, Lyla and Penelope, who need Dad to stick around.
Jerrod and Kelsey are self-employed, small business owners who are navigating this frightening time without health insurance. Now that Jerrod is unable to work, their income is going to be extremely limited. Already they have accumulated several thousand dollars in diagnostic costs alone. The next several months are going to prove to be a severe strain not only emotionally and physically but financially, as well.
I am initiating this fundraiser on their behalf. I want to help raise these funds not only to assist my brother with his forthcoming medical bills, but also to provide my beautiful sister in law with the kind of financial support she is going to need in the coming year. She shouldn’t have to worry about how she’s going to take care of her home and her children while my brother is fighting for his life.
The family has received many kind words and offers of prayer, for which we will be eternally grateful. We are aware that things have been hard for everyone in recent times, but any amount of help will be appreciated immensely.
