Thank you for helping Jerris Fight an Unjust Federal Layoff
As many of you know, I was recently impacted by a Reduction in Force (RIF) at the CDC, where I’ve dedicated over 15 years to public health, equity, and service, primarily in reducing HIV disparities among Black people in the U.S. But this RIF wasn’t just unfortunate—it may have been unlawful.
Several serious issues have come to light, as covered by the news, including:
• Errors on RIF notices
• Improperly defined competitive areas
• Elimination of statutorily mandated programs

These are not minor oversights—they may have violated federal policy and statutory protections. After consulting with legal counsel, my colleagues and I from the Division of HIV Prevention learned that we have strong grounds to file an appeal. But pursuing justice comes with legal costs I wasn’t prepared for. Estimates for legal representation range from $1,500 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
This is not just about me. It’s about accountability and protecting the rights of others who may also have been impacted. I’m asking for your support to help cover these legal fees so I can fight this improper action and hold the system accountable.
Every donation helps—no amount is too small. Thank you for standing with me and please share with others who might be willing to help.
With much love and gratitude,
Jerris
