My name is Nina, and I’ve known Jeremy for 26 years. I was just 16 years old when we first met. At the time, Jeremy was living with my grandmother in Campbell River, helping her around the house and looking out for her. Even back then, his kindness, reliability, and willingness to help others stood out.
Jeremy wasn’t just someone passing through our lives — he became part of our extended family. He is also a close friend of my cousin, and over the years I’ve watched him remain loyal, dependable, and caring to the people around him, no matter how difficult his own circumstances were.
I’m sharing Jeremy’s story because I know who he truly is. I’ve seen his heart, his work ethic, and his generosity long before this tragedy ever happened. Jeremy is someone who has always shown up for others, and now he needs others to show up for him.
In the early hours of Boxing Day, a devastating fire tore through the motel Jeremy called home. Around 3:00 a.m., he escaped with his life — but everything else was lost. In the chaos and smoke, Jeremy lost not only his belongings, but his beloved cat, his constant companion and source of comfort through years of hardship. The grief of that loss is unimaginable.
Jeremy’s life has not been easy. A few years ago, he was working hard as an installation installer, proud to support himself through honest work. Then medical issues took that ability away from him. Without income and while facing health challenges, Jeremy lost his housing and spent years living in his car, doing whatever he could just to survive day to day.
When Jeremy finally found a place at the motel, it wasn’t just a roof over his head — it was the first sense of stability and safety he had known in a long time. It was a place where he could breathe again. That small but meaningful sense of home was taken from him in a single night.
Despite everything he has endured, Jeremy has always put others before himself. He is a kind, loyal friend who wears his heart on his sleeve. While living at the motel, Jeremy became someone others relied on — driving fellow residents to medical appointments, helping with grocery runs, and offering support to those who struggled to get around. Even when he had so little, he gave freely of his time, his energy, and his compassion.
Jeremy is a hard worker at his core. He has never asked for more than a fair chance, and he has never stopped caring for others, even when his own life felt unbearably heavy.
The fire destroyed all of Jeremy’s belongings — his clothes, personal and essential items, his PS4, and a brand-new Nintendo Switch he had got after wanting one for a long time. Now, once again, Jeremy is faced with starting over from nothing while carrying the weight of grief, trauma, and exhaustion.
He urgently needs help with basic necessities such as clothing, toiletries, food, and temporary accommodation as he tries to rebuild yet again.
We are asking friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers to help lift Jeremy up during this devastating time. Any donation — no matter how small — will help restore not just basic needs, but hope.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser so others can hear Jeremy’s story.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for seeing Jeremy, for caring, and for offering kindness when it is needed most. ❤️
