Help Jeremy Back to Health

Jeremy Belk was admitted to Erlanger hospital Monday, February 19th due to high heart rate and cardiac symptoms. While there he was determined to have 75%-80% blockages that can't be cleaned, removed, or bypassed due to the nature of where they are. During his stay, it was determined that he had indeed suffered a heart attack. He was discharged on Thursday, February 22nd. Jeremy is stable and doing as well as can be expected. He is tired, sore and unable to do much right now.
Anna and Jeremy need our support. For Jeremy's part, he needs time to recover and to get as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, due to Jeremy's current health issues such as diabetes, sleep apnea etc, he is not eligible for heart surgery, bypass or stents and the damage cannot be reversed. The only option is to prevent future damage. If he has another heart attack it would be fatal.
This means lots of specialized diet and supervised exertion. It also means lots of doctors visits, therapies, and a huge amount of money per month in medications. Jeremy is a loving and active father and between playing referee for them and other household duties, there will be a lot of support needs as he recovers.
His hospitalization comes on the heels of Anna having some acute medical needs as well. Anna suffered from seizures and went through her own recovery and time out of work. She has had her own history of cranial surgery, epilepsy, and liver disease. At the time Anna was in much the same situation as Jeremy; unable to drive, work, or help in the daily support of the family.
Why support this family? These are some of the genuinely nicest people we know. Amanda and I met Jeremy and Anna through foster care. God eventualy blessed them with a pregancy and child ... and then another ... and then another. They have three sweet and rambunctious boys and are just a joy to be around. Fostering was not the only way they opened their hearts to our community.
Both Anna and Jeremy work professionally to help others in our community. Anna worked incredibly hard to establish the mental health court in Chattanooga, helping make sure that individuals with mental health issues aren't being criminalized for that, but getting the care and respect they need and deserve. She has also served in a Regional Administrator role with the Tennnessee Fostering and Adoptive Care Association. Jeremy went back to school for re-training to work to help kids through TN Department of Children's Services and as a social worker with the Chattanooga Police Department Family Justice Center. He hasn't stopped there and is currently in school for his Master's of Social Work. Anna and Jeremy genuinely care for their community and put their time and energy out there for others.
Though Jeremy was discharged, he is at high risk and needs lot of support. The money will be used for current and future medical bills, medications, transportation, specialized dietary needs, and family support needs. We will also be starting a meal train to help support the family. Please be sure to check the details as there are a lot of dietary restrictions.
I need everyone who has touched Jeremy's life to reach back to him. Ides LARPers, cosplay and comic/con folks, State of Tennessee employees, Chattanooga Police, foster parents throughout the state of Tennessee, local member of our legal institutions, and especially our Christian neighbors. Please consider donating and sharing the story of this great dad, husband and his family.
