Hi my name is Jeremiah Jordan! Im 21 year old from Chicago and majoring in dance at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

Due to limited support, I am humbly asking for $4k to cover my travel, housing, and tuition so I can study at the prestigious Martha Graham school in New York City this summer.

Since age 7, I have been extremely passionate about dance and would plead with my mother to sign me up for classes. Unfortunately, due to her personal beliefs me going to class was a hard no. However, I didn’t let that stop me! I would wait patiently until she would go to work and take classes from YouTube. Eventually when I became of age, I got a workers permit and paid for my own dance classes. Having the opportunity to train at Hawkins House of Dance, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Chicago Multicultural Dance Center, Ballet Chicago and take drop-in classes at local studios in the Chicago land area.

Currently, I am a junior pursuing a BFA in dance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Since attending this institution, I have funded my own education while making big strides in my dance journey. My sophomore year I had the opportunity to perform a Jose Límon work entitled “The Winged” (restaged by Roxane D’Orléans Juste), perform for the Graham school through their university partnership, and as of recently had the prestigious opportunity to perform “Afrique” choreographed by Katherine Dunham (restaged by April Berry).

Being able to attend the summer intensive at the Graham school will truly be life changing. The training will help further my understanding of the technique, contribute to my up coming senior thesis, my career goals within modern dance, and help me audition for the advance certificate program through the Graham school.

Since applying to the Graham intensive, they have given me a scholarship in the amount of $250. With this in mind, the $4k will go towards the remaining balance of my tuition ($1,270), room and board expenses for the month of June, and travel expenses. Any amount donated is extremely appreciated.
