Help Jenny and Her Family Keep Their Small Business — and Their Hope — Alive
Every morning before sunrise, Jenny gets to her small gas station/convenience store in Port Angeles by 5 am to prepare for the long day ahead. She works until 9 p.m., 5 - 7 days a week, keeping her doors open against impossible odds. Jenny and her mom are the kind of people who give endlessly — caretakers by nature, rarely asking for help. But now, after years of financial strain and a sudden tragic loss, they urgently need their community to rally around them.
The Struggle Behind the Scenes
For the past ten years, Jenny’s family has been locked in an ongoing lawsuit against the former owner of their gas station. He sold them the business under false pretenses and has refused to pay for the site cleanup that he’s contractually obligated to perform, a necessary step if they want to sell. This long fight has drained their finances and energy, yet their lawyer remains optimistic that a breakthrough is near.
While fighting this legal battle, Jenny and her family have worked nonstop to keep the business running. Since February 2016, when they took over the business, Jenny and her family have never closed the store, not even for major holidays; however, this past June & July, due to her dad’s tragic medical emergency, they were closed for the first time for several days. By the end of the summer, the business was struggling and Jenny was running on empty — exhausted and burnt out from the relentless schedule of needing to work every day by herself at the store in order to make up for lost time and revenue. In September, she was finally able to hire a good employee to help. Then, in October, the slow season hit, cutting sales in half. Even with an employee working full time, Jenny is still working close to 90 hours a week. Recently, she shared that business has been unprecedentedly slow due to the poor economy and other local problems.
Between slow business, legal bills, and her father’s medical bills, the financial pressure has become overwhelming.
What Your Help Will Do
Jenny has a difficult time asking for help; it took a lot of convincing to get her to share the reality of what she’s facing. We created this fundraiser to lift some of the weight she’s carrying and give her family breathing room during this difficult time.
Your donation will go directly toward:
- Keeping Jenny’s one employee paid from now through May (Approximately $31,000)
- Helping with medical and legal expenses ($16,000)
Every dollar helps Jenny and her mom avoid crippling debt, fight to win their lawsuit, and keep their business — and their hope — alive.
Why Your Support Matters
Jenny and her mom have spent their lives helping others — serving meals, supporting friends, and quietly giving back to their community. Even in these difficult times, they continue to support those around them, doing what they can, however small. Now it’s our turn to give back to them. We can’t add more hours to Jenny’s day or speed up their lawsuit, but we can help her and her mom rest a little easier knowing their business and their family are financially supported.
Please donate if you can, and share this campaign with friends, coworkers, and anyone who believes in:
- Standing with hard-working small business owners
- Supporting good-hearted people in hard times
- Holding bullies accountable
Whatever you give will be a blessing and a lifeline.
On behalf of Jenny, her mom, and all who love them — thank you for standing beside them during this incredibly arduous and tragic time.
