Hi, we at UUCM (Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains) are setting up this Go Fund Me to help Jenny fix the roof on her mobile home, which was severely damaged in the recent snow storms in the area. Currently her property is unliveable. (Church members can also donate directly through a special account found on the UUCM website)
In Jenny's own words: A massive snowstorm beginning 27 February and continuing through the beginning of March brought dangerous high-levels of snow to the Grass
Valley area and all of Nevada County. The roof of my mobile home was not
strong enough to deal with the extra weight. During the storm I had help
sweeping snow off the roof. Even with this work done, the weight of the
snow grew to be such that my ceiling sagged and kitchen cabinets became
detached from the wall. The ceiling put such pressure on the tops of the
cabinets the ceiling of the “main room” sagged inward.
A contractor inspected the damage and determined the structure was
“uninhabitable” due to the ceiling/roof collapse. More than one inspection
was done to assure me a correct assessment was being made.
For several days I was told the trailer was “totaled” and not to anticipate
any repairs. Subsequent conversations with contractors, suppliers of
materials, and a local mobile home contractor, made it clear there were
options besides abandoning the structure. A “fix” was recommended at a
cost of $17,200.00. I signed a contract to follow up on the recommended
repairs.
I experienced the “scam” of my savings three years ago. A UUCM friend
made me realize the wire fraud was bogus. I had one hundred and forty
thousand dollars and lost all but twenty thousand. With that money I bought
my trailer home. This left me with very little resources for the disaster that I
am now experiencing.
The trailer is my “last resort” as a home. The loss of it would leave me
without any ability to house myself. The expense of repairing this trailer is
the most logical and appropriate direction to take, but without help I cannot
afford to cover the cost of repair. I am overwhelmed with fear for the future
but also comforted by the efforts of all who are working to help me get back
into my home. I appreciate any help that you can give.
Sincerely,
Jenny
