I’m Kenny Broyles. My wife Jennifer Macellaro has ALS. It’s as awful as it sounds.
In May of 2019, Jennifer began to lose function in her right hand. We initially thought she had a problem that could be fixed relatively easily and that she’d be back to work in a few weeks. Because of the pandemic, a diagnosis was not reached until January of 2021.
ALS commonly progresses very quickly; most patients die within five years of diagnosis. Jennifer's has been progressing four to five times more slowly than usual. As of the summer of 2025, she can still walk and breathe without aid and perform some simple functions of day-to-day living but faces a significantly increasing loss of independence.
Our already challenging financial situation has become more difficult. We now find we need money, mainly for day-to-day expenses, while I act as Jennifer's only caregiver. We will also use the funds for services and equipment not covered by Medicare.
If you would like to help out in some other way, let me know. We appreciate any support you can give us.
