After working hard to achieve significant weight loss, I’ve been facing a new set of challenges. Because I have lupus, I’m experiencing recurring infections in my skin folds, which has made daily life uncomfortable and sometimes painful. These infections are not only physically difficult but have also taken a toll on my emotional well-being. I have delayed seeking help for over a decade, hoping things would improve, but the situation has become unmanageable and is affecting my quality of life.
It’s incredibly hard for me to share this and ask for help, especially knowing that so many others are facing their own difficult challenges. I’ve tried every avenue, but my insurance will not cover the surgery due to the burdensome documentation requirements and the limitations of our healthcare system. Despite having years of medical records, it’s not enough to get the support I need from insurance. To help pay for the surgery, I will be taking out a loan against my retirement savings, which is a difficult decision. This is not a luxury, but a necessary step for my health.
My doctors have recommended a tummy tuck surgery to remove the excess skin and help prevent these infections from coming back. The cost of the surgery and the recovery process is more than I can manage on my own, but it’s essential for my health and well-being. I want to be able to move forward with confidence and without the constant worry of another infection.
The support of friends, family, loved ones, and even strangers gives me the courage to make this difficult decision and move forward. Sharing the photo for this fundraiser has taken a lot of courage, as I have never shown people what it has looked like since my weight loss. This is how important this is to me. I am not someone who takes spending this amount of money lightly—this is not to look better, but to protect my health. Even the smallest donation from many people would help me reach this currently unattainable goal. Every bit truly makes a difference, and I am deeply grateful for any support you can give. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering helping me on this journey.
