Our family is facing a battle we never imagined. My sister-in-law, Jennifer Bufkin, age 35, was recently diagnosed with stage four metastatic colon cancer, which has spread to her liver and possibly her ovaries. The diagnosis came after she had emergency surgery to repair a perforation in her colon...a surgery that also revealed the cancer.
Jennifer now faces many rounds of chemo and radiation therapy, along with staggering medical bills. Because she’s been out of work, she’s fallen behind on her mortgage, utilities, and car payments, and now faces the devastating possibility of losing her home and transportation. To make matters worse, her home recently suffered serious plumbing issues.
Jennifer is one of the most selfless people you could ever meet. For the past 15 years, she’s worked two, sometimes three jobs, all to provide for her children. As a single mom raising two high school daughters, she has poured every bit of her energy, time, and love into making sure they have the best life possible. She’s the kind of person who hates asking for help and instead asks how you’re doing. She’s an active member of her church, deeply rooted in her faith, and always looking for ways to serve others...even while life has thrown challenge after challenge her way.
Even now, through the pain, shock, and uncertainty, Jennifer’s first thoughts are of her daughters. They are devastated, and our hearts break for them. But we believe there is hope, and we believe in the power of faith, family, friends, and a community to rally around someone who has given so much without asking for anything in return.
We are asking funds to help cover:
- Multiple rounds of chemo and radiation treatments
- Past and ongoing medical bills
- Mortgage, utilities, and car payments to keep her home and transportation secure
- Emergency plumbing and electrical repairs to make her house a home again.
I will manage the funds on her behalf for treatment, home, and kids. I, along with my wife, will post regular updates. Every dollar will be sent to Jennifer to provide the stability she needs to focus on healing and caring for her daughters. No donation is too small, and every share of her story helps.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Jennifer during this fight. Your kindness, generosity, and prayers mean more than words can express.
