Help Jennifer & Ed Starkey with Medical Bills

Donation protected
Hello, and thank you for viewing.  My name is John Oliver.

I am the son of Eddie Starkey and Jennifer Starkey.  As some may know, my mother has had multiple health issues over the last 10 years, including a stroke and multiple hospital stays.

On Thanksgiving morning last year, Ed awoke to find Jennifer unresponsive.  She was rushed to Mercy hospital and stabilized.  A few days later, we found out that she had suffered a massive stroke on the right side of her brain.   She stayed in the hospital for weeks, and then was transferred to James River Care Center (a local nursing home.)

My mother's current prognosis is not favorable.   Her left arm is permanently paralyzed, she cannot speak, and is not aware most of the time.   It is expected, that barring a medical miracle, she will continue to require private nursing care 24/7 for the rest of her life.

As you can imagine, this, compounded with the COVID-19 Pandemic, has taken its toll on Ed.   He visits her whenever he is able, decorates her room, and sits with her and holds her hand.   Just this week, after applying for Medicaid, Ed found out that his total bill for her montly care will be over $2300 per month.   This represents more than 70% of he and my mother's total monthly income.  They have a mortgage for their house, and other medical bills that Ed will try to pay off, while still living and paying their other monthly bills.

Over the years, my mother and father have touched many people lives, given selflessly to both family and friends, and even when they haven't had extra to give, they've still helped out anyone who has asked.

I now come to you, humbly, asking for any assistance that you can give to help Ed with this financial burden.   This will allow him to still buy groceries, provide Jennifer with the care she requires, pay outstanding medical bills, and pay his monthly utility/phone/etc.

I've run a few GoFundMe campaigns for friends and loved ones...however, this one, as you can imagine, is close to my heart. :(

Anything you can give, or even just sharing this campaign, will be a tremendous help to my family and especially to my father and mother during this time.   Ed's first payment to the nursing home is due 6/1, and he is setting up a payment plan for the last 3 months and well as paying the 6/1 bill.

Thank you for your time, and on behalf of my mother, Ed, and myself, I thank you from my heart.
