Help Mom of 2 Fight Stage 4 Colon Cancer

Donation protected
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jennie Butler. In June of last year, I received life-altering news: at the age of thirty-nine, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Colon Cancer, which had spread to my liver, lungs and spleen. With no family history and misdiagnosed symptoms, the diagnosis came as a devastating shock. Almost overnight, everything changed. I had to stop working as the cancer and the debilitating treatments took over my body. My husband, Travis, also had to leave his full-time job to care for me and our two children.

We sought out the best hospitals and specialists, however I would not let them give me a prognosis. I was told that there was no cure and that palliative chemotherapy was my only option. I underwent twenty-one rounds of traditional chemotherapy, but my latest scan showed growth. The doctors suggested a stronger dose of chemo, which would leave me incapacitated for a week at a time, or experimental treatments with no guarantees. Heartbroken, I turned to God, seeking guidance. I have never lost faith that God is at work in my life, and deep down, I believe this is not the end. I am certain that He is using this journey for a greater purpose than I can comprehend. It was this unwavering faith that led me to Arizona for treatment.

The treatment I’m receiving in Arizona is personalized, integrative medicine, specializing in late-stage cancer, with many miraculous success stories. This is giving me a fighting chance and we are seeing progress. However, this treatment is not covered by insurance, and we’ve had to pay out-of-pocket, totaling roughly $200,000 so far. We had no idea how we would manage this, but with God, all things are possible. He has placed so many angels in our path, helping us make a way. We’ve cashed out our life savings to get this far, but now our funds are running out. I still need 3-6 more weeks of treatment, and then I’ll need to travel to Arizona every other month for additional treatments that aren’t available in South Carolina.

Asking for help has never been easy for me, but this journey has shown me that life is not meant to do on our own. Our family has been there to support others, offering a meal, a warm jacket, a care package, financial help, or prayers. My children have learned these values well, and every holiday season, we distribute care packages in downtown Charleston, an experience that brings us immense joy. Now, our family is in need of support.

When I became ill, I made a promise to my family that I would do everything in my power to overcome this challenge. I still have so much life left to live. I want to grow old with my husband, Travis, watch our children grow up, and be there as they find love and start families of their own. I dream of seeing our grandchildren play in our yard and sharing the joys of life with my loved ones.

We are relying on the grace of God to carry us through this difficult time. We can’t do it alone, but we know that He can. We’ve put everything in His hands and are following where He leads us. Despite the challenges, I hold onto the belief that every twist and turn in this journey is part of a larger plan, guiding me toward a purpose greater than I can imagine. Through faith, I find strength and peace, knowing that God’s plan for my life is far more intricate and beautiful than anything I could have envisioned. I look forward to the day when I can use my testimony to help others and pay forward the kindness we’ve received.

This experience has deeply humbled me and changed my perspective on life for the better. The most important things in life are the people who share it with you. Our family is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support we’ve received during this challenging time, reminding us that we never fight alone.

If you feel moved to support our family during this tough time, we would be incredibly grateful. If you cannot, that is perfectly okay too. Please keep us in your prayers. We believe in the power of prayer and know that God hears each one.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

With love and gratitude,
Jennie Butler
