On May 1, 2023 Jenna received news there was a mass in her left breast during a routine mammogram. After several tests it was confirmed she had Triple Negative, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Triple-negative breast cancer is usually more aggressive, harder to treat, and likely to reoccur.

As the universe would have it, one week before this brutal news she had made the decision to start her own business doing what she does best- feeding hungry people with locally sourced ingredients.

The Universe had other plans and her journey of fighting breast cancer began. Having to leave her profession of being a Chef. She had to undergo a lumpectomy in June. Soon after she started Chemotherapy on 7/11/23. This was one day after celebrating her 1 year anniversary of sobriety. Which she continues to do so with self discovery in her recovery.

The first round of a 16 treatment process of AC and Taxol chemotherapy compromised her immune system and she was put on a strict diet and told to isolate. The first round really took a toll on her. As round #2 was coming to an end she was feeling it all catch up to her. Daily tasks become a major struggle.

Jenna has inherited the BRCA2 gene mutation. Having a BRCA mutation means you have a likelihood of 61% to 77% for developing breast cancer in your lifetime, along with a 11% to 25% chance of ovarian cancer. With those numbers stacked against her, she has decided to make the decision of preventative surgery.

Her last Chemotherapy treatment is scheduled for 11/28. We are all ready to see this chapter behind her. Now she faces the surgical procedures in hopes to prevent a recurrence. She is scheduled for a full hysterectomy in January and plans to do a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery in Spring of 2024. Post chemo and pre-surgery will be spent celebrating with her amazing partner, Stephen for his 40th birthday. With high hopes that it’s the end of this nightmare they both have endured they will celebrate with a trip to see the solar eclipse, as she calls it “Boobies Last Bounce.”

Meanwhile, she faces the challenge of Medical bills, living expenses, and the hardship of being unemployed during this difficult part of her life. Let’s help our friend get her life back. The Universe has a plan for her after this year of battle, we are all excited to see what it is.
