Leighton (2) Braeden (3 months)
My name is Alex Taylor, and I am raising money to help my dear friend Jenna Mashburn support her two kids while also caring for her fiancé, Blake. On Wednesday, March 24th, Blake suffered a severe Asthma attack. When she realized his nebulizer and rescue inhaler weren’t working, Jenna loaded their two children up in the car to take him to the Emergency room. Jenna was 5 minutes from the hospital when Blake suddenly stopped breathing. Her attempts to wake him back up were unsuccessful, and when she arrived at the hospital it was determined that he had suffered a cardiac arrest brought on by the strain of not being able to breathe. Blake was without a pulse and oxygen to his brain for 15 minutes before the doctors were able to establish a heart rhythm, however he could not breathe on his own. Blake was then placed on a ventilator and transferred to ICU. He remained in a coma and underwent therapeutic hypothermia treatment to try to save brain function. After 24 hours the doctors brought him off sedation, and he was able to breathe without the ventilator. He is now awake, but his brain function is the main source of concern now. He is having trouble with his memory and speaking, and the extent of the damage is still not clear. Jenna is employed, but is unable to work right now due to this life altering experience. When Blake is finally able to go home from the hospital, he will need one on one care in which Jenna and Blake’s family will be trying to handle, on top of raising a 3 month old (Braeden) and a 2 year old (Leighton). This money will go towards housing expenses, child expenses, and food for Jenna, Blake, Braeden, and Leighton. Any extra will go towards medical expenses.
