Help Jenna Through GTD Treatment

In December 2024, Jenna & Cody found out they were expecting. In late January, they found out they had a missed miscarriage. Jenna underwent a D&C on February 6th. At Jenna’s post op appointment on February 25th; she found out her pregnancy was a molar pregnancy. The Dr. told her he had only seen this in text books but assured her that it would take a few weeks and her body would go back to normal. She completed regular labs but her HcG was not dropping back to 0 as quickly as it should have been. On April 1st; Jenna experienced some heavy bleeding resulting in a trip to the emergency room. Unfortunately, the ER had no solid answers and told her to follow up with her gynecologist. Unhappy with how her original gyno handled things, we agreed to switch to a new practice. April 2nd we saw Dr. Agrawal. After labs, reviewing medical records and imaging; he advised that what Jenna was experiencing was rare but not uncommon. Unfortunately, her body didn’t pass all the tissue from the D&C procedure. She had a vascular mass of tissue/cells left behind which had attached to her uterus. If left untreated, this mass could turn into cancer and spread. Her options were another D&C which had a high risk of bleeding and an emergency hysterectomy if the bleeding was uncontrollable. There was also a chance the D&C wouldn’t be 100% successful in removing all the tissue/cells related to the molar pregnancy. The other option was to monitor her HcG levels weekly to see if they decreased naturally. This would mean her body was resolving the molar pregnancy but at a slower rate. Dr. Agruwal wanted to see a 15-20% decrease each week. If they didn’t decrease, she would need to see an oncology gynecologist. Unfortunately, her numbers only dropped by a few and then started to increase. We agreed it was time to see the oncology gynecologist for the next steps. On May 2nd, we saw our first oncology gynecologist. Dr. Smith thought Jenna just needed another D&C to resolve the problem. However, this wasn’t his area of expertise. His partner, Dr. Crowder was more specialized in this area of care. He called her in and she explained she no longer did this care and wanted to send her to the University for treatment. We decided to switch to an oncology gynecologist at St. Luke’s on the Plaza, Dr. Knight. He reviewed all her medical records, new labs and imaging and disagreed with surgery. Instead, Jenna will need to undergo chemotherapy to get get rid of the mass of tissue/cells and prevent it from turning into cancer. Dr. Knight diagnosed her with Gestational Trophoblastic Disease aka GTD.
Jenna is scheduled to complete 13 cycles of chemotherapy. Her first cycle starts on Tuesday, May 20th. She will have 5 days on, 5 days off. She will also complete weekly labs and imaging to make monitor her HcG levels, kidney and liver function, and making sure the mass doesn’t metastasize. She will have to travel to and from Kansas City daily and unable to work during this time. All donations will be used to help towards the purchase of gas and/or meals for her and her daily driver.
