My daughter Jenna just gave birth a few days ago by emergency cesarean. My baby grandson was full term and 9 lbs, but he ended up in the NICU due to birth complications. Six days later, the doctors released Jenna from the hospital with no medication, even though we knew something was terribly wrong. She could barely walk, and her stomach was getting larger, harder, and severely protruding. It was hard, purple, very red, and hot to the touch. Despite these alarming symptoms, the hospital still released her.
Jenna went to a different hospital because she was in immense pain. Her abdomen had to be held up because it was becoming so heavy. Once admitted, we learned that her very hard and distended abdomen was actually her intestines. Her abdominal lining had ruptured inside, causing her intestines to press up against her skin wall, which explained the discoloration and hardness. She was rushed into emergency surgery as soon as the operating rooms were available. The surgeons could not completely close the incision, which now runs vertically from her sternum to her pelvic bone. The large incision is packed, and she has multiple drain tubes, including one that is clearly visible from her nose to her stomach. Jenna has not been able to eat solids or liquids by mouth at this time and is now in the ICU, fighting to get better. She has only held her newborn twice, both times at the first hospital.
Jenna and her husband have other children at home, who are currently staying with other family members. Her husband is traveling daily between two hospitals to care for both Jenna and their newborn. He had to return to work because they can’t afford the time off, and he has already exhausted his vacation time. He does not have FMLA, and their insurance is very limited. With medical bills and daily household expenses mounting, this hardworking family needs any help you can offer. Please, if you are able, consider supporting them during this incredibly difficult time. Prayers are also greatly appreciated. Our sincere thanks in advance for your kindness and support.
UPDATE: Easter: Jenna’s doctors had to increase her pain meds. She is more heavily sedated. They are also having to do blood transfusions now. Today isn’t a good day, it’s a set back but keeping faith this will turn around quickly.
