Here are some more details about Jenna:
Jenna has been a type 1 diabetic since the age of 9 and is also 24 weeks pregnant with her first baby. Diabetes in pregnancy is classed as high risk so as soon as Jenna and Mat found out they were expecting, she was handed to more experienced obstetricians and watched quite closely. 4 weeks ago after a routine blood test in Bairnsdale, Jenna's doctor called her in urgently. Her red blood cells were destroying themselves! Not a normal thing...
So Jenna was air lifted to Monash hospital Clayton where she had an anonymous team of amazing doctors and specialists working on her condition. For what seemed like forever, no one could understand why this was happening. She has had numerous blood transfusions, blood tests, a kidney biopsy, cannulas, stints and every type of test you could think of! After a very stressful kidney biopsy last Friday, where a slither of kidney was taken through a big needle in Jenna's back, given to scientists and tested, we all finally had some answers!!! She has been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, atypical Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (aHUS). It is thought that it's a genetic problem Jenna was born with and falling pregnant has complicated and flared it up. It's super rare, only 60-70 people in Australia have it and is very hard to diagnose and treat.
Jenna had her first treatment on the 23rd of February after her kidney doctors spent hours on the phone trying to get approval for her to have the treatment; at $40,000 a dose, it's not something that's easy to get your hands on!! They're hopeful that they have diagnosed Jenna before she experiences any further kidney damage (including kidney failure) but it's still a long road! She is very up and down but her main concern is their bubs, which is doing great!
Jenna's family including Mum Narelle, Dad Shane, sisters Cara, Nikki, Kylie and Hayley and their extended families are trying to raise this money to help Jenna and Mat through this extremely difficult time. Jenna was admitted to Monash hospital 4 weeks ago and since their financial costs have skyrocketed. These costs have included: loss of income, Mat's travel to hospital every week (over 3 hrs from where they live) and hospital parking.
All of the money raised through this campaign will be withdrawn in cash at the end of the campaign. Currently the bank account is set up in Nikki Brasier's name, she will withdraw the entire amount in cash and give this money to Jenna to support both her and Mat and to improve her quality of life.
Jenna, Mat and their families would like to thank everyone for their support. ❤️❤️ ❤️
