On September 19th at 11:30pm, Dakota (AKA Kota) and Jenny Haggard experienced the most horrific, tragic event in their young lives. The day started out like any other Sunday, they attended church and left that afternoon on a date excited to go to a Christian concert in Irvine. The concert ended and they began their trek home, forfeiting a stop for ice cream as they were both eager to pick up their lil guy and get home.
Within a few blocks of home, they were involved in an unavoidable head on traffic collision when a car came into their lane without warning. Within minutes of the impact, Jenny lost her Kota, the true love of her life, Dakota passed almost instantly. These two were the couple you see in movies, so in love, high school sweethearts, beating the statistical odds of starting out young in life, only to grow more in love every day.
To know Dakata Haggard is to love him, he would give/sacrifice anything to help others. His smile and his sincere attention he gave you when you were talking to him are only a couple of the many reasons people were drawn to him. Dakota’s life was God, Jenny, Hayes, his family and his friends, the order of his priorities. Dakota was an impressive 28-year-old man, the CEO/founder and sole owner of a successful local business; Blasted Restoration. He wasn’t wealthy, he didn’t work 80 hours a week because he was smarter than that. He chose to work enough hours, to pay the bills, but his highest priority was to spend all the time he possibly could with Jenny and 1 year old baby Hayes Mack Haggard. In a tragedy like this, one might question the Lord and possibly walk away from their faith. If you knew Kota, he would tell you, “Have faith and never question God, because he has a plan.”
Kota was the sole provider for his family. Jenny is a warrior and she will raise Hayes to be the man Kota was. “We love you Kota” this world and our hearts have a void of seismic proportions, we will never-ever be the same, but we are far better humans having had you in our lives. You will forever live on in our hearts every minute of every single day.
To all who read this, no amount that you contribute to this fund is too small, every dollar given will help Jenny and Hayes as they try to continue living on without their hero, best friend, provider and protector. Please keep them both, along with Kota’s family, in your prayers.
“In Your presence is fullness of joy and at Your right-hand pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11
