Support Jenn’s Lung Transplant Journey
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I’m fundraising for my mother-in-law’s current and future medical bills. Not only has she been in the hospital for over 16 days, she also needs a lung transplant, and both those things are expensive.
Jenn has had lung disease for 25 years, having multiple surgeries on her left lung, but has always pushed through her health struggles. Then, on February 3rd, she had a spontaneous pneumothorax, collapse of her right lung. She was admitted to the hospital and recommended for pleurodesis surgery, but wasn’t cleared until February 12.
The surgery itself went smoothly, however the doctor discovered Jenn’s right lung is not in a redeemable state. All they could do was a bandaid solution.
We are currently in the post-surgery stage and she is on a dry suction seal. The next steps will be moving to a water seal before attempting to remove all breathing assistance. They tried to move onto the water seal stage Feb 18, but it did not go well and they had to go back to the dry suction.
At this point, Jenn’s lungs will continue to fail. She needs a lung transplant to return to everyday life and avoid these lengthy and difficult visits.
The reality is a very high cost, and we find ourselves with a financial barrier to the healthcare she needs. We need your help for Jenn to continue enjoying life with her husband, 4 kids, and 2 grandchildren. All donations will go toward medical bills and associated costs, such as transportation to an out of state, larger medical center for transplant surgery.
*Update*
On January 15, Jenn received a bilateral lung transplant. It was much sooner than expected, and while there have been hiccups, recovery is going well! She and the family are so grateful for how everything has happened. She has about a year of recovery ahead of her, but she’s already off of supplemental oxygen. She has ups and downs every hour, day, and week, but she’s resilient and is making great progress. Her current big bills are the transplant itself, along with all the follow up appointments and the travel costs that go with them. Now that she has her new lungs, we need help to make sure she can enjoy them!
