If you’ve ever met Jenifer Hughes, you know she’s the kind of person who gives her whole heart to everyone around her. She’s strong, courageous, and fiercely loyal — a loving wife to Eric, a devoted mother to Cullen and Amber, and a true friend to anyone lucky enough to know her. For nearly 30 years, Jenifer has cared for others as a critical care cardiac nurse, standing by her patients in their hardest moments. Now, it’s our turn to stand by her.
Earlier this month, Jenifer received devastating news: her aggressive triple negative breast cancer had returned. After enduring chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and a double mastectomy — with all the pain and exhaustion that came with it — she thought the worst was behind her. She was finally starting to heal and make plans for her reconstruction surgery when she discovered a lump in her neck.
After more tests and a biopsy, her fears were confirmed — the cancer was back.
Because of the aggressive nature of this recurrence, Jenifer’s doctors have referred her to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, one of the top cancer hospitals in the country. There, she’ll meet with leading specialists to develop a new treatment plan and give her the best possible chance to beat this disease once and for all.
But getting this world-class care comes at a heavy cost. Frequent travel from Virginia to New York, temporary lodging, and uncovered medical expenses are already beginning to add up. And while Jenifer has never been one to ask for help, she needs our support now more than ever.
Jenifer is a fighter. She’s faced every challenge with grace and determination — but she shouldn’t have to fight this battle alone.
Please consider donating to help cover her travel and treatment expenses, and share this page with others who may want to help. No amount is too small — every dollar brings Jenifer one step closer to recovery, one step closer to more years with her family, and one step closer to the life she so deeply deserves.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and love.
Let’s help Jenifer kick cancer’s a$$ — for good.
