Hi friends. As many of you know, I quit my last job with full confidence that I'd be getting a different one, one much more suited to my abilities and personality, one that would change my life for the better. However, the Covid-19 emergency caused the place that I was going to get the job to cancel my interview, as they were closing for the Stay at Home order. Therefore, I'd quit my job without a back-up. Had I stayed at my old job one more day, I would have been able to claim unemployment for being laid off. Instead, I had to claim that I'd quit. Now my unemployment claim is under review, and it will be a long time before I see anything from it, if ever. Please understand, I'm not complaining about that part of it. They have their procedures to follow, it's just my unfortunate lot that it should be happening at a time when unprecedented numbers of people are filing.
I would be happily jumping into some other job, but the only things available right now are retail positions, and I'm physically incapable of being on my feet for more than a few minutes at a time. I'm also unable to do the kinds of work required to stock shelves.
Therefore, I'm without any kind of income and have been for almost a month. I am not proud of asking for help this way, but I've been encouraged by a few smart friends, so here I am--hat in hand. I've asked for this amount of money because I think it will keep me floating until things start to open up again and I can either get the job I might have gotten, or find another kind of suitable work. $1300 is my average monthly income for utilities, gas, food, car payment, and taking care of my dog. It's just the two of us, and we try to live simply.
I understand that everyone is in a tough spot right now, so please don't feel obligated. But if you have a couple of dollars to throw our way, I would be more grateful than I can possibly express.
