Dear Friends of Jen Coté,
We’re Cici and Kerry—two of Jen’s many longtime friends—and we’re organizing this fundraiser with her blessing to help her access the care she needs.
If you know Jen, you know her deep connection to the earth, dedication to supporting young adults, love of a good laugh, and commitment to living fully and authentically—courageous, connected, and spiritually grounded.
Life, however, these last few years has brought her to her knees. Between ushering her Mom through her last breath, the sudden, devastating loss of her only sibling a few months later and four other deaths in her family, it has been an unimaginable stretch of grief. Add to that navigating breast cancer and treatment, untold hospital visits, and the enormous task of clearing out and selling her childhood home while helping her father transition into a retirement community, it has all been too much to bear.
Recently, Jen completed a three month stay at an intensive residential wellness program to stabilize and rebuild after prolonged stress and trauma. For the time that Jen was in the program, she made great strides. However, since leaving, she has experienced a lot of anxiety and despair due to the sudden shift away from the supportive structure she had come to rely on.
Jen is clear that what she really needs in this moment is prolonged time in an intensive therapeutic program that focuses on trauma and includes a “step down” component that will offer structured transitional support. We are in communication with several of the foremost programs in the country that will allow her to feel held, contained, and cared for. They each offer a combination of evidence-based treatments and customized care and provide ongoing support as she builds the next chapter of her life on the East Coast.
That’s why we’re reaching out.
The cost of these programs is significant, and while Jen has insurance, these centers are not covered as mental health in this country most often requires private pay. We are working within a budget that will maximize resources for the longest amount of time, holding that a daily rate could be as little as $500 or as much as $1,300. Our fundraising goal is for her most immediate care. We will keep her community informed of future monetary needs as her treatment progresses.
Understandably, Jen is not in a position to cover treatment on her own. She hasn’t been able to work for some time, and even with all that she can contribute, there’s still a gap. We, together, can help close that gap. Your contribution—no matter the amount—will go directly toward the treatment Jen so deeply needs.
Agreeing to let us start this GoFundMe has been a difficult and vulnerable step for Jen. As many of us can empathize, asking for help is not easy, especially for someone as self-reliant and strong as Jen. She has been a steady, loving presence in so many of our lives, as a friend, teacher and guide. This is our chance to give back—to help Jen into the next chapter of her life with renewed resilience and hope.
With love,
Cici Mulder and Kerry Brady
