On Monday, August 11th, in their small Iowa town, our dear friends Jen, Josh, and their two daughters lost their home — and everything in it — to a devastating fire that started in their garage. It appears their tractor may have sparked the blaze. (Not exactly the “Love Tractor” we’re used to) :(
Within minutes, the fire consumed their home, their belongings, and even their three vehicles. The only thing that truly mattered made it out alive: Jen, Josh, their children, and their beloved pets are safe.
Who They Are
Jen and Josh are the all-American family from Iowa. They live a loving “normal” life, with one unique hobby… they enjoy traveling the country with dear friends to see the band Widespread Panic.
Just one day before the fire, they returned from a weekend in Indianapolis with our group, “The Lucky Ones.” Together, we hop from city to city spreading kindness, love, and the reminder that we truly are The Lucky Ones.
But right now, Jen and Josh don’t feel like it. And that’s where we all come in.
Over the weekend, Jen had one wish — to hear Panic play Nobody’s Loss. On the second night, the band closed with it. Her smile during that song could have lit up the whole venue. Now, ironically, they’ve lost everything. But the song still rings true: it’s nobody’s loss when friends and family show up to carry you through.
What They Need
Insurance will rebuild the structure and replace the cars, but not the life inside. As anyone who’s been through this knows, coverage doesn’t come close to restoring the emotional, physical, and financial toll.
The list is endless:
• Clothing
• Housing
• Transportation
• Everyday essentials
• And the comfort of knowing their community has their back
They’ve lost every physical thing — but not their spirit, and not their tribe. Our goal is $100,000 to help them start over.
