Breast Cancer Sucks - Let's Help Jen!

Donation protected
I’m Jen’s daughter, Madie, and I am organizing this fundraiser on her behalf.

In April 2021, just days before she came to visit me and my family in Florida for her grandson Sam’s first birthday, she got her second COVID vaccine dose. She had the typical bad reaction to the second dose - fever, aches and pains, plus swollen lymph nodes. She was feeling better within a couple of days but her lymph nodes seemed to remain swollen. We had heard the news reports that the vaccine could cause a reaction in the lymph nodes. She felt a lump and was concerned - we have a family history of breast cancer and Jen's cousin Rachelle tragically passed away in January 2018.

But my mom has found cysts on her breasts before so I was convinced it was just that – a cyst that would go away or a vaccine side effect that would resolve in a few days. My mom told me she would schedule an appointment to check it out once she got back home.

The week she was told to get a mammogram was also the week she was laid off from her job.

On May 7th, Jen had a mammogram and ultrasound to locate the lumps and a biopsy the following week. She was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma.

Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) is the second most common type of breast cancer after invasive ductal carcinoma. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 180,000 women in the US find out they have invasive breast cancer each year. -From breastcancer.org

Then, May 26th, she underwent an MRI and genetic testing to help further diagnose her breast cancer. We’re still waiting on word on how in-depth her treatment will be - we won't know that until her surgery and find out how extensive/what stage the cancer is, if it's in her lymph nodes, or if she'll need chemotherapy or radiation - but we do know that her expenses are already starting to pile up.

Jen is scheduled for a double mastectomy and potential reconstruction on June 16th.

If you know my mom, you know that she has been all about living her best life these last few years - cycling, hiking, camping, kayaking, paddleboarding, you name it. We're not about to let this diagnosis slow her down.

All donations will allow Jen to take the time she needs to recover by helping to pay for medical expenses, any travel-related costs, and her mortgage and other living expenses. Due to losing her job, getting insurance coverage has been tricky, so we’re not sure what procedures or how much of them will be covered.

We cannot thank you enough for your generous donations! No matter the amount, we are eternally grateful for the love and support you have shown to my mom.
