My name is Jeffery Mcniel,
I have been a horse owner for 45 years, and a farrier for 35 years.
I moved from Sonora California to the Intermountain area 10 years ago, and I'm on the board of Directors for the fall river/Big Valley Cattlemen's Association ,and the Cassel volunteer fire Company.
On June 22, my 5 horses and 1 mule were hit and killed by a loging truck in Lassen county on a county road which is open range.
they were chased out of a corral by an unknown predator .
My son an i were attempting to catch them, when the logging truck did not heed the warning of the flashing lights and did not slow down and killed all of my animals.
The drivers insurance company is demanding payment for damages of over $60,000. Blaming my animals, standing visibly on a straight road, in open range for the accident.
Defending myself against these claims and holding the driver responsible for his neglect and the death of five horses and one mule is unfortunately an expensive endeavor. As such, I am raising funds to begin the legal battle that will likely set precedent for future livestock owners in open range land cases.
Sincerely Jeffery Mcniel
