UPDATE--This fundraiser was successful and the fence will be built!!!  The Southern Indiana Animal Rescue has so graciously offered to pick up the rest of the tab for the fence!!!  I'm going to keep this open to the public, but am closing donations at this time.  If you'd like to give further to this project please do so by donating to The Southern Indiana Animal Rescue!!!

Hi there,

 

I am a volunteer at the Jeffersonville Animal Shelter in Jeffersonville Indiana. I mostly go on weekends to help get the shelter dogs out for a walk. If you have ever been there you have probably noticed a large fenced-in area in the front of the building. That is a visitation area for potential adopters to visit their prospective new family member and spend time with them while off a leash. It is also used to let the dogs get out of their cages and run with the volunteers.

 

However, an issue exists because the large fenced-in area can only be occupied by one dog at a time. So many times visitors who want to take a shelter dog into that area either have to wait for it to be free or they do not get to see how the dog is off the leash. Obviously, this can lead to people leaving and not adopting a dog without knowing how it will behave off a leash.

 

What I am wanting to do is to add additional fencing/gates to segregate this area into at least two sections. That will present an opportunity for at least two dogs to be able to be in the fenced area at once. This could possibly play a huge role in adoptions!! In the very least it would allow at least two dogs at a time the ability to get out of their cages and exercise.

 

Once I see the projection of this fund-me I will start getting quotes for this project. If enough funds are not raised for fencing the money will be used to put in more trees or seating into the area. ALL funds will go to the shelter in some fashion.
