Help Jeff with medical bills from a rare Cancer

Donation protected
In Fall of 2022, Jeff Farrington was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. In August he began having kidney issues during some routine tests while establishing with a new doctor. Abnormalities were discovered in his blood after a month that was initially thought to be tied to high blood pressure and kidney failure. After a two-month-long period, doctors later discovered it was a rarer subset of an already rare form of cancer called Light Chain Deposition disease. Worldwide there are less than 150,000 cases of Light Chain Deposition disease and less than 20,000 cases of his specific subset. No agreed-upon treatment is available, most are controversial, and all attempted treatments are considered experimental.

Jeff had to stop work immediately and begin an aggressive regimen of chemo treatment alongside four other medications to try and slow down the progression while dealing with kidney issues and other side effects. They have been surviving on half of their normal income.

Since October and the primary identification of the disease, it has been nonstop testing, bloodwork, and treatments. The most recent has been to have bone marrow removed from the affected area and have it irradiated. This is meant to clear the affected region but it also does damage to healthy cells. For the next step expect him to be hospitalized for a 2-3 week period while he takes substantial chemo treatments. Then he'll receive a healthy bone marrow transplant. As part of this, his immune system will be compromised and he will need to remain in seclusion until he heals.

Due to the experimental treatment much of his treatment is not covered by insurance and my parents have already accrued a medical debt near $10,000 and it is expected to grow beyond this. If my father loses the fight with this cancer my mother will still be saddled with this debt. It's a strange thing to type all of this out, as their son I don't have the resources to aid them beyond a meager amount of money and by assisting with maintaining things around the home. My mother and I spoke and this GoFundMe looks to be our best option currently. My mother will be taking an extended leave without pay from her job to be able to take care of my father through the final waves of treatments and his recovery period. This is expected to be more than six months.

Beyond just the physical pain and health issues this has taken a toll on my father. He has always been a hard-working family man. Most of the fields of work he's done have been physically taxing such as construction. Jobs requiring him to wake up early, stay late, and were physically taxing. Even his time as a long-haul trucker saw him driving long hours and being gone from home for weeks at a time. Whatever was required of him he saw done for the sake of his family, even forgoing most past times and his dreams of owning a fast boat. Seeing his ability to go out and work taken from him has cut him deeper than any wound. To make matters worse this comes just a few years from my parent's retirement and is threatening to delay or even destroy their capacity to do so.

If you support this GoFundMe you would be helping my parents pay for expensive and experimental treatments that aren't covered by insurance, saving them from having their retirement or house taken from them. You would give peace of mind to them that after this last challenge, they can still have their rest after a long and arduous life, and that their hard work wasn't in vain. You would also make my father secure in the knowledge that his wife is taken care of in the event cancer wins as he goes to face these final challenges.
