On Saturday January 16th, 2021 Jeff was involved in a motorcycle accident on Colonel Ledyard highway, less than 5 miles from his house. Although he doesn't remember the crash, it was determined by police and witnesses that he hit the guardrail and his body subsequently hit a telephone pole. He was immediately taken by LifeStar and transported to the Hartford Hospital emergency department where he underwent trauma assessment, clean-up and repair to his lower extremities. Thankfully, Jeff was wearing his HJC full face helmet, which undoubtedly saved his life. He suffered deep lacerations to his right arm and right leg which needed suture and drainage and road rash now covers his hands and abdominal area.
He has already completed 4 surgeries to work on the damage sustained to his right and left ankles and feet. At this time, it is undetermined how many more surgeries Jeff will need (not including the skin and muscle graft surgery) and when he will be able to be discharged from the hospital and return home for recuperation, physical therapy and healing. His doctors do believe he will be able to walk again.
One of Jeff's main concerns is returning to his beloved job at Defender Industries in Waterford where he works as a marine service technician. If you know him, Jeff has an extremely dedicated work ethic and drive for perfection. Because of the trauma incurred to his feet, it will be many months before he is able to return to work at a normal pace.
In the beginning of 2020, Jeff and his girlfriend Megan purchased their first home together in Ledyard with their rescue dog Cooper. My hope for this fundraiser is to alleviate the stress of medical bills, mortgage payments, and cost of living while Jeff is out of work and they are a single income household.
Thank you for the outpouring of support, prayers, good vibes, kind messages, and phone calls from friends, family, coworkers and strangers near and far during this difficult time. You ALL have raised us up, and given Jeff the encouragement and strength to fight for his recovery.
