Jeff Rachford (Whitestown and Walker Farms resident) experienced a traumatic house fire a few days after Thanksgiving 2020 (see article below). He was saved by some good Samaritans who were passing by and happened to see the fire before jumping to quick action (This couple was honored by the Whitestown Fire Dept. see article below). Jeff has been in the hospital ever since with 3rd degree burns over near half of his body. When he finally leaves the hospital, he will go to a rehab facility. He has had at least 5 surgeries so far and lost 4 of his fingers due to the fire. The road to healing will be long. Jeff lost almost all of his belongings in the fire, his cat had to be rehomed, and he emotionally relives the trauma frequently.
As a community, neighbors in Whitestown quickly began to talk about how we could support Jeff, whether we knew him personally or not. This is the type of community we are and strive to be! Jeff not only needs financial support, but to know through people coming alongside him that he can make it through this long recovery to a new, but different life! This financial support will ease the burden of wondering how to cover all of the accumulating bills, so Jeff can focus on the healing he needs both mentally and physically. This will communicate that people care about him and give him strength to press on in this difficult time.
The goal of $25,000 will simply start to cover his bills (wouldn't it be great to raise more!). Jeff has not only been in the hospital since the fire, but his only income is social security. We can bless him as a community both near and far to show him God’s love for him. (Please feel free to pass this along outside of Whitestown as well, because our world is a caring place!)
