Help Jeff Medeiros (Coach Dune) beat cancer!

If you’ve ever followed Stonington High School girls lacrosse, been a member of Mystic Muscle and Fitness, or eaten Friday Fish Fry at the Pawcatuck VFW, you may know Jeff Medeiros, A.K.A. Coach Dune, A.K.A. Muldoon)

On July 30th Jeff was diagnosed with Stage 3 anal cancer and has since been undergoing treatments. Due to the area of the cancer and the effects of the treatments, Jeff has been unable to work, since October, at his job as a mailman at the Ashaway Post Office. This, along with the cost of treatment, has put a significant financial strain on Jeff’s family. Future treatments begin at $35,000 and may well exceed $100,000.

Jeff grew up in Stonington where he lives with his partner Nicole and his two young daughters, Ava (14) and Zoe (11) who he loves very much, along with their pet Cavapoo, Bella.

When he is not spending time with his family, Jeff has always been willing to volunteer to local causes in our community. Jeff has coached at Stonington High School since 1994: Track & Field (Pole Vault) ’94-’99 (state champions 98 & 99!) and Girls Lacrosse 2000-Present. Under Jeff the girls have won many ECC titles and a 2014 state title! But developing the program from its second year in 2000 may be Jeff’s proudest achievement. Jeff volunteered his time as an unpaid head coach until 2005 and used fundraising to finance the program’s needs until it was fully funded in 2015. His passion for coaching didn’t end on the field. Jeff would spend long hours at night watching film to help his players improve. That love of helping others was also evident at his gym Mystic Muscle and Fitness where he would train both athletes and his gym members who were looking to achieve their fitness goals.

Jeff has also volunteered his time at the Pawcatuck VFW where he has cooked the fish at the Friday Fish Fry since it began in 2013. If you’ve ever eaten the fish there it was probably cooked by Jeff!
