Help Jeff Martin Heal and Recover

Donation protected
I am a sister-in-law to Jeff Martin. Jeff is the Assistant Athletic Director at Greenville City Schools and 7th & 8th grade girls' basketball coach. On January 14, 2025, Jeff was found very sick in his house, unable to communicate. Jeff was taken to the hospital. After many tests, it appeared Jeff had bacterial meningitis. Later that was confirmed. According to his medical team, his was a severe case that was making his brain very angry. He was placed on a ventilator. For 2 1/2 weeks, Jeff barely opened his eyes. He could not follow commands. And when he did open his eyes, he seemed confused at best.

So many people had been praying for him. And we believe God responded as Jeff started to come out of the haze he had been in. It started with trying to talk, then saying one word, then short phrases. We are now over a month out from when this all started and Jeff is finally able to sometimes speak in sentences and even tells some stories. He speaks slowly and sometimes struggles to finish his thought. But we are told that he can still make a complete recovery.

On Monday, February 10, Jeff was moved to the Brethren Retirement Community (BRC). He has been receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy while there. He is improving, but it is a very slow process for meningitis patients. We found out yesterday that Jeff’s insurance will only pay for him to remain at BRC until Wednesday, February 19.

Jeff is in no way ready to go home, but insurance says otherwise. That is why we are setting up this fund. It costs $364 per day for Jeff to remain at BRC where he has access to 24-hour care. We are hoping to at least get 2 weeks more for him at BRC to heal and receive therapy. Then we will evaluate his needs. He will most likely need additional help for a few months.

If you talk to anyone who knows Jeff or has worked with him, you know that he is one who gives so much. We are asking that you consider giving back to him now. If you are unable to give financially, we ask that you pray. Pray for Jeff’s care, his therapy, and his healing. Thank you.
