Jeff and Lisa are the kind of people who show up for others—quietly, consistently, and without asking for anything in return. Jeff is a dedicated school teacher here in California, and Lisa works in childcare, helping care for young children through her sister’s business. Together, they’ve built a life centered around hard work, family, and caring for others. But over the past month, everything has changed. Lisa has been in the hospital for the last 4 weeks due to a serious medical condition. During this time, Jeff has been by her side—where he needs to be—supporting her through recovery. Because of this, Jeff has had to step away from his second job driving for DoorDash, which they relied on to help cover everyday expenses. With Lisa unable to work and that additional income gone, their bills are quickly starting to stack up. This is not a situation they planned for—and like many families, they don’t have a financial cushion for something this long and uncertain.
