Let’s Help Jeff & Kristin DeGrave

Hi everyone! I have been honored to know Kristin for quite a while now. She has been a part of our family business at Daniels Chiropractic Office since before I was born. I’d like to tell you about Kristin and her husband, Jeff, and the reason that I am fundraising for them.

Jeff and Kristin met locally through mutual friends. After their scenic wedding at Windpoint Lighthouse 28 years ago, they settled in Racine. They both come from small families and they have no children of their own.

Like all couples they’ve faced challenges, but this recent series of trials has been especially challenging for them to handle on their own.

In September of 2020, Jeff, a strong and healthy construction worker, felt intense pain and was soon diagnosed with lung cancer. Now, a third of one lung is gone due to radiation and, along with that, much breathing power. He is still undergoing chemo regularly as they continue to find evidence of cancer cells.

Jeff is easily winded from activity and fatigued from chemo treatments every 3 weeks. His wife, Kristin, has been a faithful caregiver to him as well as the breadwinner working at Daniels Chiropractic in Racine, Wisconsin. Kristin has been a part of the team at Daniels for over 37 years and she is “family.”

In August of 2021 Kristin came home from work very sick and with a splitting headache. Soon she went by Flight For Life to Froedtert Milwaukee and stayed for 36 days with a severe brain bleed (stroke). Jeff says that she has been breathing on her own for 3-4 weeks now. She started eating on her own about 2 weeks ago. She is learning to speak again. Her blood pressure has fluctuated, but has somewhat stabilized. This week she had surgery to replace her posterior bone cap on her skull.

Her road to recovery is long.

Their roles have reversed. Jeff, though weak, is now caring for Kristin, and he is so glad to do so. He loves her dearly.

We, their friends and family, want to step in and help. Their needs are extensive and their income is currently a small disability check. It’s not near enough to make ends meet. Our goal is to raise $30,000, which will give them $2,500 of living and medical expenses for 12 months.

They are in danger of losing their home. It has also been a challenge just to have enough money for food and gas to get to treatments multiple times a week in the Milwaukee area.

They did not ask for this kind of assistance. They are humbled by the outpouring of love and care and are receiving this gratefully.

Would you help this couple? Your donation will go directly to help the DeGraves take care of their basic necessities. Thank you so much.
