Update 7/13 - 

Discharge Day!

First, Jeff is overcome with emotion at the outpouring of support. Thank you for making his recovery so much easier! 

Second, we are excited to share the good news that the final surgery was successful and that Jeff will be discharged today, Monday, July 13! 

Jeff’s recovery at home will be long. He will have to get his lungs back to full capacity while his ribs heal from the initial injury. His doctors say this next phase will be at least 6-8 weeks. During that time, he will have limited mobility and unable to return to work behind the bar. So your support will make a huge difference to him, financially and emotionally. Thank you!

Update - 7/11

Last night, Jeff was transferred to Kaiser’s Oakland facility for a thoracic surgery procedure this morning. It was a success! They were able to remove all or most of the blood and clots in his lung. They removed his chest draining tube and put in another. The new drainage tube should come out in a few days and then Jeff should be heading home for recovery! Jeff and his family are beside ourselves with gratitude for the overwhelming generosity you have shown in the first 24 hours of Jeff’s fundraiser! We are deeply touched by your support and are so grateful to have such an amazing community behind us. Thank you for making such a difference for Jeff!

First Post - 7/10

Many of you know Jeff as a friend, colleague, bartender, and familiar face at the SF Eagle and in the San Francisco community. He is someone who shows up for people with sincerity, humor, and a huge heart. Right now, he needs some of that same support back.

Recently, Jeff was in an accident that left him with three broken ribs. What first seemed like a painful but manageable injury turned into a life-threatening medical emergency six days later. Jeff was rushed to the hospital after his condition unexpectedly worsened. Doctors discovered that the broken ribs had caused internal complications, including a punctured and collapsed lung, and torn arteries bleeding into his lung. He needed emergency treatment, has undergone several surgical procedures to repair the lung, and remains hospitalized.

Jeff is stable and fighting hard, but this is not a quick recovery. He is expected to be out of work for all of July and into August. Bartending income depends heavily on being physically present, working busy shifts, and earning tips. Missing even one major weekend hurts. Jeff has already missed Pride weekend, and he will miss Dore Alley weekend and other major events and high-earning shifts while he heals.

We are raising money to help Jeff cover the income he is losing while he cannot work, along with the practical costs that come with a serious injury and hospital stay.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to offset his lost income and cover recovery expenses. Any amount helps, whether it is $10, $25, $100, or simply sharing this page with people who know and love Jeff.

Jeff has given so much of himself to his friends, coworkers, customers, and community. This is a chance for us to help take some pressure off him so he can focus on healing instead of worrying about how he will get through the next few weeks.
