Help Jeff Huggett MS Recovery
Hello, my name is Ashley Huggett. On July 9th, 2021 my mom Carrie took my dad Jeff Huggett to Oaklawn Hospitals Emergency Room. From there he was transferred to Borgess Kalamazoo Neuro ICU. At first, doctors thought he had had a left-sided stroke because he could only say ’yeah’ or ‘nah’. He would get visibly frustrated because he knew what he wanted to say but could not say it. This morning my mother, sister Jessica and I went to see him before we heard from the neurologist. We gave him a whiteboard to try to help him communicate. At that time, we learned that he can write letters but cannot think through the correct spelling. When we met with the neurologist, we were informed that he had a Multiple Sclerosis attack leaving new lesions on his brain. (He has not had a noticeable one in 20 years.) He was given a steroid regimen over the next few days to reduce the inflammation in his brain. After that he will be released from Borgess Hospital. However, he may have a long road to recovery, if he even recovers fully. He could regain some of his speech, writing or concentration, all of it, or none at all. He also has a little bit of right sided weakness. Speech therapy and physical therapy will hopefully help. In the meantime though, he is not able to work. I am setting up this gofund me to help with living expenses for my parents while he is out of work, expenses incurred during his hospital stay and to help with very near future appointments.
Even if you just share, send a prayer, good thoughts, anything... our family appreciates it so much. Dad (Jeff Huggett) is the rock of our family. To see him go through this is heartbreaking for us.
