Jeffrey “Jeff” Howard is the kind of person who changes a room the moment he walks into it. Jeff has never met a stranger. While he is internationally recognized as a certified personal trainer and coach, those titles barely scratch the surface. To so many, Jeff is a mentor, a motivator, a best friend, and a daily source of light. His classes don’t just fill up—they overflow—because people aren’t just showing up to work out. Beyond his professional impact, Jeff is someone who always puts others first. For the past five years, he has also been the primary caregiver for his beloved husband, Mark. Mark, who shares Jeff’s big heart and kind spirit, has faced serious health challenges, including vision loss and memory issues. Through it all, Jeff has been his constant—providing care, stability, and love every single day.
Now, Jeff needs us. After battling pneumonia since January, Jeff was hospitalized in early March. During that time, doctors discovered an infection in his heart and ultimately diagnosed him with congestive heart failure (CHF)—a life-altering and unexpected diagnosis. In Jeff’s own words: “My life completely changed in the blink of an eye… I was told that I would never resume the life that I had before. I’m sitting here today with a life vest on… still in disbelief. I’m tired… but I feel very loved… and hopefully the future will be bright.” For someone who has always been the “energizer bunny,” this has been an incredibly difficult adjustment. Jeff is currently undergoing treatment, wearing a life vest, and facing months of recovery and uncertainty. During this time, he is unable to work in the way he always has, while still continuing to care for Mark.
