Hello! I'm Jeff and I need your help! I have known for a little over almost 7 years that I have Parkinson's Disease. I take medication to control the symptoms that I have which are mainly tremors on my left side. I have been taking a few medicines for over 6 years. Over the past few years, I have used almost all of my sick/annual leave because of the side effects of one of the medications. It makes me feel a way that I am not comfortable driving in rush hour traffic in the morning, so I text my supervisor and tell him that I am having Dyskinesia and that when I feel better and comfortable driving I will be in to work. He says ok. Most days I feel better and go to work. Other days I don’t feel better and don’t go at all. This of course has eaten up my sick/annual leave.
My neurologist at UAB says that I am a prime candidate for the DBS procedure. That acronym means Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). I have waited for almost a year to get my surgery date which it's on November 13th. I am getting worried about the 4 to 6 weeks after my DBS procedure is performed. With my annual/sick leave being so low because of my battle with my symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, how will I fund my life’s expenses as I recover. I am not worried about the brain surgery but are really only concerned about how I am going to take time off from my state job with not being able to get paid.
Please consider helping me pay for the 4 to 6 weeks of time away
from my state job that i will have to take without pay.
Thanks for any help!
