Rally With Jeff To Beat Cancer
Donation protected
I have been donating money for years to friends to help their loved ones - never in a million years did I think I would have to make one of these for a family member of my own.
My father in law, Jeff Hoffman, was diagnosed with Kidney cancer in the summer of 2018. He had surgery to remove the tumor on 8/17/18 and the doctor said everything went perfectly. Jeff was doing amazing when we saw him at Thanksgiving and said he felt great and started taking oral chemo not long after that.
Fast forward to January 2019...Jeff went to the doctor for his regular screens and blood tests. The doctor noticed something off with his blood work so they scheduled a CT scan and a follow up visit. The next Monday we got the dreaded text from Mike's mom, Sandra, that, short story, they had to go to the oncologist on Friday because the cancer came back and had spread. They learned that Jeff has non-clear cell carcinoma which is a rare form of cancer that does not respond to traditional chemo. He has tumors in his liver, lungs, lymph nodes and spine, as well as one on his pituitary gland in his brain. He has been in and out of the hospital getting blood transfusions, calcium infusions, lab work, testing, etc. He has had trouble breathing and went to the ER yesterday to find out he has fluid in his lungs, which the doctors think was a reaction to the blood transfusion he had on Wednesday.
Update as of now is that they have been accepted into MD Anderson and they are waiting to make an appointment. They were told they did not have anything available until Mid February, but his oncologist is working diligently to get him in sooner. There is a doctor there that specializes in non-clear cell carcinoma that we want him to see asap. Jeff has been trying to work from home as much as he can and Sandra has been going to the office between appointments and when he is feeling ok, but them stressing over money is the absolute last thing I want them to have to do. They are both so hard working (and stubborn lol) that they did not even want me to make this for them. But with traveling to Texas as well as doctor bills and other bills starting to come in while they are out of work, I think this is the least we can do for them. If you can not give, please share this, and please pray for Jeff as well as Sandra and their family.
