Help Jeff Dunn Jr Battle Covid
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Chris and I set up this Gofundme to help support my brother Jeff Dunn Jr. with expenses while he battles COVID-19.
To the people who know JP, the nickname his close friends often use, he has a reputation as a happy-go-lucky guy. He is the type of guy you meet up with when you want a night full of laughs and adventure. It's hard to decide which is bigger, my brother's smile or his heart. I have moved a LOT in my life and everyone knows that helping a friend or relative move is one of the absolute worst ways to spend a weekend. But my brother was there every single time to help me move. I could always count on him. It was my brother who took me in at age 19 when I needed to withdraw from Penn State and he paid for my expenses for almost two months until I could get back on my feet. A few years later when I lost my job and my girlfriend in the same week, he was once again there for me. He let me move in with him so I could return to college and finally graduate from Penn State. That's the type of person my brother is, the guy you can count on to help you out when you needed it the most. But now it's his turn to need help, and he is hoping he can count on his friends, family, and the local community near Hershey, Pa when he needs them most.
My brother started having COVID symptoms on Thursday, November 18th. My wife and I dropped off a care package of turkey and other Thanksgiving favorites on Wednesday, November 24th. I spoke to him a lot that day via text and phone and it is then when we discovered that his blood oxygen had dipped to 84%. Along with the help of a few other friends, we convinced him to check himself into the Hershey Medical Center that day. He was moved to the ICU on Thanksgiving Day and has been battling for his life since. Right now it appears that he will be in the hospital several more weeks. Our hope is that he can win his battle with COVID in time to be home for Christmas, but that is far from guaranteed.
While he has health insurance, his portion of the hospitalization will likely cost him $7,500 or more. But more pressing is that he hasn't worked since mid-November and it's unlikely he will be able to work again until January or February of 2022. He continues to have rent, a car payment, utilities, insurance payments, loan payments, etc. due each month. We anticipate he will likely need help with at least three months of normal expenses and possibly more. The recovery process could be slow and expensive as well, as COVID recovery is unpredictable.
I often joke with my brother that he is the Mayor of Hershey. He is an institution in that town. EVERYONE knows him. He has always been supportive of local businesses: American Legions, VFWs, and especially local restaurants. Please spread the word and let people know JP needs their help. Right now I want his focus to be on defeating this virus, not worrying about whether his car is going to get repossessed or if he'll be bankrupted when he comes out of the hospital. Each donation to my brother goes a long way in easing his burden and keeping his focus on recovering so he can hopefully be home with his family to celebrate Christmas.
