My name is Sherry Tanner, and I have created this GoFundMe for my older brother, Jeff Davis.
Jeff has been married to his wife, Danita, for 36 years, and they have two sons and three beautiful granddaughters. Danita has been the church secretary at the First Baptist Church for more than three decades. Jeff has a larger-than-life personality! A true outdoorsman, he could always be found on a deer stand, a boat, or a 4-wheeler. Wherever he was, he made friends with folks with the same interests, and he enjoyed planning fishing trips, hunting days, and cookouts.
Jeff is a lifelong diabetic. Unfortunately, with that diagnosis comes other complications, and in 2018 he went into kidney failure and was no longer able to work. In June 2019, Jeff got approval for a transplant, but unfortunately, it got delayed by triple bypass open heart surgery. Thankfully, in December of 2019, he finally received his kidney transplant! He had a new lease on life!
Until now.
About four months ago, in late January of 2022, Jeff noticed a small, cracked area on his right heel. It was only about 1 cm long, but as a person with diabetes, he immediately went to the doctor. Unfortunately, despite months of wound care, invasive procedures, and multiple physicians, Jeff was admitted to Duke Hospital with life-threatening conditions Friday, May 6th. He subsequently had his right leg amputated below the knee and will need at least one more surgery to revise the “stump” in preparation for a prosthesis later. In addition to the months of ongoing wound care, amputation surgery, and revision surgery, Jeff’s wife has missed work to be by his side. They live 2.5 hours away from Duke, so travel expense has been challenging. He will have out of pocket expenses associated with this hospitalization. With this amputation, Jeff has incurred costs to build a wheelchair ramp this week while he is remains in the hospital. He also will need various medical equipment, a prosthesis, and Physical Therapy for all his mobility and recovery stages. We hope he will gain his strength back and walk independently again someday!
All donations will help with these known and unexpected needs as they occur. If you feel led to donate, we thank you for your kindness and support and are humbled by your generosity. If you cannot donate, we still welcome your thoughts and prayers and ask that you take a moment to share this GoFundMe page with your friends and family. Thank you for reading his story.
