I wanted to share the story of our Dad's journey. On August 14th he was taken to the hospital by ambulance for confusion, fever and severe headache. By August 18th he was on a ventilator, in a medical induced coma fighting off a virus that caused swelling in his brain. He would remain in this state for over a month in the ICU. During that time he suffered multiple brain bleeds and blood clots began forming in his legs. We were forced to make the difficult decision of him having a procedure to remove the clots in order to save his legs.
Unable to see him due to current pandemic, all we could do was ask the nurses to Facetime us so he could hear our voices. These were some of the darkest and most difficult days for our family. We had never felt so helpless while our Dad, our hero, our protector and provider, the man who cared about everyone else before himself, just laid there, lifeless. The day finally came when he opened his eyes and they slowly reduced the sedatives. It would be days before he could speak because of the thrach in his throat. The doctor informed us that he would need extensive rehabilitation due to the brain injury and the fact that he had been asleep for over a month but we were just happy to have him alive!
Anyone who knows my Dad knows that he was in the middle of living his best life. He was an avid dancer and loved taking his Harley out for a ride. We would love to see him get back to living that life he loved so much. He is a wonderful but proud man that would never ask for help, but he needs it now more than ever. Without medical insurance his medical bills and rehabilitation expenses are going to be astronomical. Your generosity will help lighten the load so he will be able to focus on recovery and not worry so much about the financial repercussions his current condition has caused. He has a long road ahead, but is in good spirits and ready to put in the work to get better.
