Hi, my name is Christal, and I’m writing this with a heart full of hope, fear, and determination. I’m asking for help for my husband, Jeff, who has been through an unimaginable medical journey in just a few short months.
On July 31st, Jeff underwent a laminectomy. The surgery went wonderfully, and he began the road to recovery with so much optimism. At his three-week post-op appointment, his doctor told us everything looked great and scheduled a routine three-month follow-up. Over the next month, Jeff slowly but steadily improved, and we truly believed the worst was behind us.
Then everything changed.
About three weeks before that follow-up appointment, Jeff began falling frequently. When he finally saw the doctor, they immediately ordered a full spinal CT scan. The results were devastating — Jeff had fractured his C7 vertebra, and his spinal stenosis was so severe that doctors rushed him into emergency surgery on December 18th.
The surgeon first operated through the front of his neck to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord. Initially, everything seemed okay — until the anesthesia wore off. Jeff suddenly could not move his legs at all and could barely wiggle his big toes. The surgeon had to immediately take him back into surgery, this time opening the back of his neck, where they found and removed severe calcium buildup compressing his spinal cord.
Jeff is currently hospitalized and will soon be transferred to an inpatient spinal cord injury rehabilitation center. His road ahead is long and uncertain, but we are holding onto hope and prayer that he will regain mobility and walk again.
Our biggest challenge now is preparing for Jeff to come home.
Our home is not equipped for his needs. We urgently need to repair our porch and build a wheelchair ramp so that when Jeff is discharged from rehab, he can safely enter our home. Unfortunately, we simply do not have the funds to make these modifications on our own.
I am a mother of two beautiful daughters on the autism spectrum who require 24-hour care, and now I am also caring for my husband with a spinal cord injury. Once Jeff enters rehab, it will be incredibly difficult to visit him — the facility is over an hour away, and traveling that distance with two children who have special needs is extremely challenging both emotionally and financially.
We are asking for help — for financial support to make our home accessible, and for prayers for Jeff’s healing. Our daughters desperately need their dad, and Jeff deserves the chance to come home, heal, and regain a better quality of life.
Any donation, share, or prayer means more to us than words can express. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time.
With gratitude and hope,
Christal
