Our cousins, Jeffrey and Bonnie, lost everything in the LA fires last week. They have dedicated their lives to the Los Angeles entertainment community: Jeffrey is a conductor and Bonnie is an opera singer. In losing their home and possessions, they also lost their life's work and their livelihoods. Please join us in helping them.
Here are Jeff's words:
---
Tragically, our beautiful 100+-year-old house in Altadena that we loved and cherished is no more.
Our home is gone, and we’ve lost everything. Bon's vocal scores, gowns, clothes, jewelry, piano, etc., are gone. And my custom conducting regalia, harpsichords (both of them), books, articles, research, videos, keyboards and computers, harpsichord and organ music, chamber music, and most tragic of all, all of my orchestra scores, including the marked ones: all of my notes, annotations, bar periods, bowing, etc., are a memory. A lifetime’s work - not mere possessions, but a lifetime of inquiry and study, decisions and judgment (for better or worse), are no more.
In Altadena, our once-beloved haven now lies desolate, transformed into a haunting tableau that evokes the relics of a shattered world, like a forgotten realm steeped in myth and sorrow. My thoughts are not just for Bonnie and me but for the entire area, which has also lost everything.
While I may have lost years of an intimate relationship with my instruments and a lifetime of work on my orchestra scores, the greatest and most valuable treasure was ultimately saved from the flames. Bonnie and I still have each other.
We are strong; we will prevail.
