Update on Sunday 8/31:
Jeff seems to moving in the right direction. He's still suffering from fatigue and dizziness upon standing. He has been officially released to return to work on Tuesday 9/3 and see if he can handle it. He still has post concussion syndrome and the symptoms can linger for months.
Tracey was moved from the trauma ICU today to a room in the neuro department of the hospital. She was in great spirits today thinking about it being Maddox's birthday. She got some fancy boots to wear on each leg to help with the foot drop and was actually joking saying that she finally has some shoes that are,"in style". She had developed random muscle jerking in her upper extremities that is causing issues when she eats or is on her phone. This evening she developed a headache at the base of her head and has blurred vision. Hopefully this is just a migraine. She was able to transfer from the bed to the bedside commode today. I'm sure it's scary to try to walk or turn your feet when there is no feeling in them but she did awesome
Update on Friday 8/29:
Jeff is still experiencing pain in his head and neck. He is extremely fatigued and gets dizzy upon standing.
Tracey is still listed as a trauma patient in the ICU at St Vincent. She has complete foot drop in both of her feet and still has no feeling in her legs. She has now developed pneumonia but the Dr said that is not uncommon.
On Saturday, August 23, Jeff and Tracey were going to out of town to see their oldest grandson play in his soccer tournament and then go to his 8th birthday party. They were sitting at a stop sign waiting to cross a 4-lane highway when a pickup truck on the other side of the highway pulled out in front of a semi-truck and car. This caused a chain reaction accident. The car beside the semi lost control and ended up crossing the median and hitting another car head-on, and then both cars hit Jeff and Tracey nearly head on. They were both taken from the scene by ambulance to Franciscan hospital Lafayette and Tracey was transferred to St Vincent hospital Indianapolis.
Jeff was released from the hospital the same day with a concussion and whiplash. He's experiencing headaches and pain in his shoulders, neck, and back. Tracey is in the ICU at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Upon arrival, the trauma and neurosurgeon team determined that she had a Central Spinal Cord Injury. She had surgery to repair her spine and had 4 discs fused. They are still having trouble regulating her blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels. We thank God for medication and machines that are doing the work for her. She has no feeling in her legs due to the spinal cord injury. The only information we have received is that her injury takes 6-24 months to recover, and right now there is no way to tell IF or WHEN she might be able to walk again. After release from the hospital, she will be going to an acute rehabilitation facility before she is able to go home.
Jeff will have to do some modifications to their home to get it ready for her after he heals from the accident himself. He has exhausted all of his vacation time, so any days that he will need to take off work to care for Tracey or take her to doctor appointments will be unpaid. Jeff has always been there for our community, and this time he is in need. Please share this with everyone you know and above all else, if you are a believer, please pray for both Jeff and Tracey as they need prayers more than anything right now.
